Applying for an apprenticeship.

Here’s your top tips guide to applying for an apprenticeship.

1. Research

Do lots of research to find out as much as you can about the industry such as current trends or skills that are in demand. And find out about the employer. Understand their values and culture.

2. Tailor your application

Don’t submit the same application to every job. Personalise it to the employer and apprenticeship role and make sure you highlight the skills and experience you have that are most relevant to the role.

3. Show enthusiasm

Explain why you want the role, what you want to do in your career and why you’d love to work for that employer.

4. Consider Linked In

Set up a Linked In profile with your skills and experience so far. That way an employer can learn a bit more about you.

5. Prepare for interview

Practice answers to typical interview questions such as:

  • Why do you want this role?
  • What skills to have you have that make you a great candidate?
  • What are your strengths?
  • Why do you want to do an apprenticeship?

6. Be polite and professional

Use full sentences and formal language in any emails – no emojis please.

7. Be positive

You may not be successful first time around. But don’t worry. Rejections are part of the process, always ask for feedback and learn from the experience.
