Skills Bootcamp in Cybersecurity and Networking for Business Level 5

Looking to elevate your career in cybersecurity and networking?

Our Cybersecurity and Networking Level 5 Bootcamp offers advanced training that prepares you to become a versatile, well-rounded security professional, mastering both network defence and ethical hacking skills.

This Bootcamp is designed for those who want to build upon their existing knowledge of network protocols and security features within LANs.

This course provides an in-depth exploration of cybersecurity from the perspectives of both a blue team network manager and a red team ethical hacker.

By gaining skills from both sides of the field, you’ll be trained as a “purple team” professional, capable of defending systems and identifying vulnerabilities.

Whether you’re seeking higher-level roles in cybersecurity or looking to upskill for digital transformation within your organisation, this bootcamp delivers practical, real-world knowledge and experience.

From hands-on labs to strategic threat analysis, you’ll learn the tools and techniques needed to secure networks and protect digital infrastructures.

Collaborate with industry experts, gain a deep understanding of LAN protocols, and enhance your professional profile in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity.

Over the course of this bootcamp you will develop the following skills:

  • Advanced LAN Protocols and Networking: Deepen your knowledge of network protocols and their roles in secure digital environments.
  • Blue Team Techniques: Learn defensive strategies and best practices from an experienced network manager, focusing on system protection and threat mitigation.
  • Red Team Skills: Gain insights from an ethical hacker, exploring vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and offensive security measures.
  • Purple Team Development: Integrate skills from both defensive and offensive strategies to become a well-rounded cybersecurity professional.
  • Threat Analysis and Incident Response: Engage in hands-on labs and simulations to prepare for real-world cybersecurity challenges.

Required Entry Qualifications

All applicants are invited to interview and take part in an initial assessment process to check your suitability for this bootcamp.

In addition, all applicants are required to have the following:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 9-4 (A*-C), or equivalent.

We recommend that learners have at least a Level 3 qualification in an IT/Tech related subject, however, we welcome applications from people without this qualification and will consider your interview and initial assessment performance.

You will engage in a hands-on project that simulates real-world cybersecurity challenges, providing you with a portfolio to showcase your skills to potential employers.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to study for and take the optional Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification to evidence your readiness for industry.

Our teachers are ambitious, talented and passionate about making your experience at college the very best it can be.

They are members of Dynamo North East and have up to date industrial experience to share with you, and the energy and enthusiasm to help you to get where you need to be.

Cloud and Cyber Teacher, Tom, said: “Teaching bootcamps is very hands on, it’s not all conceptual, so it’s a creative and fun teaching environment.

The message I try to spread is, this is not just for the hooded elite, with enough effort and commitment, anyone can start to develop their technical skills to put them one step ahead in the employment market.”

Our Digital Technology curriculum is reviewed by a range of employers to ensure that you will develop the skills required to work in the industry.

These include:

  • Sage
  • Accenture
  • TSG
  • National Innovation Centre for Data

Previous graduates have gained employment with these organisations amongst others.

As our bootcamps are delivered via a blended approach we ensure that learners have access to industry standard software.

In addition, for in person sessions, our teaching rooms provide a realistic, practical learning environment.

If you are an independent learner, you will be guaranteed a job interview in industry.

This bootcamp will prepare you for a career as a Network Engineer, Security Analyst and Ethical Hacker, as well as other more general cyber related roles.

David Ingrouille, Web Development Manager at Sage, said: “The bootcamps have been a huge success and have given people a fantastic opportunity to embark on a career in digital, which otherwise may not have been possible. Working with Gateshead College, we’ve been able to identify brilliant local people who are professional and enthusiastic, with a positive can-do attitude, and whose values align with Sage’s. The programme has helped us jump-start these employees into technical roles by providing basic skills and knowledge at the bootcamps, which they’re now building on in real jobs.”

Jeff Ho, a Skills Bootcamp graduate, said: “The Skills Bootcamp in Digital was the best way for me to secure employment. I was disheartened about not being able to find a role in the region, but I found out about the programme and decided to give it a go. I’m very happy to have found success with Sage – it’s a great place to work and I’m enjoying my new role.”

Aneta Pawula, a Skills Bootcamp graduate, said: “I wasn’t sure if university was the right option for me so the option to complete a bootcamp was ideal for me. I found the bootcamp perfect for giving me that additional knowledge and the ability to go into the interview with confidence in my ability.”
