The Hospitality, Event and Tourism industries are the fastest growing sectors in the North East with excellent job opportunities. Businesses such as hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions are all looking for staff who have the ability to not only to deliver exceptional customer service but lead a team, manage and supervise staff.

The North East has been selected as the location for a major £2.25 million tourism project which aims to attract more investment, welcome more sporting, business and cultural events, support business growth, create new jobs, and boost domestic and international tourist numbers and you could be a key part in achieving this!

In 2024, The Sage, a community-focused, state-of-the-art business and entertainment destination is planned to open, bringing the world to the region. It will be the North East’s largest business and entertainment district and will welcome more than one million visitors annually. The development is due to provide an estimated £70m annual boost for the local economy, creating 2,000 jobs.

This course will enable you to develop skills and gain knowledge to confidently give your customers the 5-star treatment as well as building your leadership skills and confidence to ensure you get the best out of you and your team.

Required Entry Qualifications

5 GCSE qualifications grade 4 and above including English and maths are required. If you do not meet the GCSE entry requirements but have achieved a level 2 qualification in Travel & Tourism or Hospitality you may still be considered (interview required).

There are no exams on this course. There is a range of assessment methods including written assignments, presentations and practical activities.

As part of the course you will attend a work placement with one of our partners which include hotels such as the Maldron and Leonardo groups, Food and Drink suppliers including Café 21 and Fenwick and Tourism organisations; NGI (Newcastle-Gateshead-Initiative) and Tyne and Wear Museums.

You’ll also get the opportunity to work as part of a team in our student-run restaurant Enfield’s Kitchen, serving paying customers. You will also organise and manage guided tours, events and supervise, mentor and support others.

On completion of this qualification you could opt to study at college for another year towards an Extended Diploma, which is the equivalent of 3 A levels. This would give you entry to university to study a degree such as International Tourism and Hospitality Management BA (Hons) or Tourism and Events Management BSc (Hons).

Alternatively, you can start applying for employment within the hospitality, event and tourism sectors for roles in hotels, holiday parks, restaurants and tourism related organisations such as visitor attractions and tourist information services.
