The course is designed to help you to gain key skills and progress to a higher Level 2  qualification.

You’ll gain a basic introduction to the sector and the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being for children aged 0-5 years.

This qualification provides an understanding of the skills needed when babysitting.

It includes the babysitter’s responsibilities to the children they care for, their responsibilities to the parent(s) and accident prevention and fire safety.

It is made up of units from the Level 2 Certificate Introducing Caring for Children and Young People. This course is a skills builder course to support learners to progress onto higher levels.

Stretch and challenge units will also be undertaken in preparation for progression onto the full level 2.

Units include:

  • Craft activities for young children
  • The value of play to young children
  • The importance  of play for early learning
  • Sharing learning experiences with children
  • Accident prevention and fire safety
  • Safe Guarding the well-being  of children
  • The role of the babysitter

English and maths

To enable further progression you will study English and maths and participate in individual and group tutorials to strengthen employability skills as part of a full study programme.

Assessment

We use a range of methods to assess your progress and provide you with feedback to help you to improve. These include:

  • Presentations
  • Projects
  • Hands on experiences
  • Google expeditions
  • Group work
  • Activity planner

Your course will be delivered by a teaching team who are passionate about the subject area.

All teachers maintain their industry knowledge and skills by returning to practice at least once a year.

Several sit on the early years professional exchange and some are also Governors in local schools.

We have excellent links with a range of high quality employers in day nurseries and primary schools where you may be provided with an opportunity to work alongside a professional as part of a work placement to put what you have learnt in the classroom into practice.

Before going on work placement, you’ll get a feel for what the world of work is like by taking part in virtual reality activities as part of our exclusive education partnership with PROTO Centre for Emerging Technology.

After this course, you can progress onto our  Level 2 Certificate in Working with Children in Early Years and Primary Settings.

One GCSE grade at 4 or above. Early years or health and social care experience is desirable.

You may need the following kit;

  • a uniform to wear on placement including sensible shoes and black trousers
  • one course textbook
  • a range of stationary.

Funding support is available to help cover some of these costs, for those who meet eligibility criteria.
