As a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ), this program is not just an educational pathway; it’s a transformative experience designed to prepare you for a fulfilling career in the mechanical engineering industry.

Our curriculum blends engineering principles with specialised units in mechanical engineering.

Through hands-on learning experiences and practical projects, you’ll learn the core concepts of mechanical engineering, gaining invaluable real-world skills along the way.

As a HTQ, this course is designed to meet the evolving demands of employers, ensuring that you graduate not only with knowledge but also with the practical expertise needed to excel in your career.

We collaborate closely with industry partners to develop modules that are directly relevant to the mechanical engineering sector, providing you with a clear pathway to employment, apprenticeships, or further study.

You will develop your skills and knowledge in a broad range of areas covering range of engineering units, which are:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Managing a Professional Engineering Project
  • Mechanical Principles
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Fundamentals of Thermodynamics and Heat Engines
  • Production Engineering for Manufacture and Quality and Process Improvement.

All taught by industrial experts and set up to develop the right skill level making you work ready within the sector.

Sometimes planned delivery is subject to change, for example moving to remote learning. If this is the case we will clearly communicate this to you beforehand.

You’ll be based in our world class Skills Academy for Automotive, Engineering, Manufacturing and Logistics campus at Team Valley where you’ll benefit from our outstanding workshops which have a range of industry standard mechanical maintenance equipment including:

  • lathes
  • millers
  • grinders
  • fabrication and welding workshops
  • electronics laboratory
  • pneumatics
  • PLCs
  • ICT suites with industry standard engineering simulation software packages, including Matlab, MultiSim, Autocad Inventor.

The fee shown is the fee you will pay per year of study. For example, if the course lasts for one year, this is the full fee you will pay. If the course lasts for one or more years, this is the fee you’ll pay per year of study. There may be additional costs for equipment, uniforms or study resources which we’ll let you know about at your course interview.

This is a set fee and will apply to those paying for themselves, paying via a Student Loan and for those being sponsored by an employer.

If you are sponsored by your employer you will need to confirm this in writing to secure your place. Discounts may apply for employers sponsoring several employees.

Mature students may be offered a place without these qualifications, depending on a satisfactory interview.
