This is an exciting two-year full-time course aimed at helping you to develop a career in early years and childcare and is a great choice for anyone considering a teaching career or working in a nursery.
You'll learn skills that will make you job ready when you leave us to be able to step into a position working with children up to the age of 7, under supervision. The course also carries the UCAS points to help secure a place at university.
On the course you will study:
- School readiness
- Observation assessment and planning
- Supporting emerging literacy
- Supporting emerging maths
- International perspectives
- Reflective practice for professional development
- Professional partnerships in early years
- Professional practice
We'll assess your progress as you go through the programme, giving you feedback to help you to improve where needed. Assessments will be carried out by a range of methods including giving presentations, project work, observation of practical work, Google expeditions, augmented reality, group work, activity planners and professional discussions.
You will complete one externally assessed assignment called a controlled assessment.
Your study programme will be delivered by teachers who are vocationally competent and passionate about the subject area. All teachers maintain their industry knowledge and skills by returning to practice at least once a year. Several sit on the early year’s professional exchange and some are also Governors in local schools.
We have excellent links with a range of employers who we work with to provide you with a high quality work experience placement in a nursery, day nursery or primary school. To prepare you for this you'll gain practical skills in our on site creche classroom, equipped like any modern nursery setting. On work placement, you will work alongside a professional in the field and develop practical skills that you will relate back to your to learning in the classroom.
You'll train in our on site creche classroom which is equipped like a professional nursery.
You'll need to buy a uniform to wear on placement, a textbook and stationary. Funding support is available to help cover some of these costs for those who meet the eligibility criteria.
After the course you can apply to university; currenlty around 75% of our students choose to do this to become teachers or special needs teachers.
As a result of successful work placements some of the students are employed by their placements employers.
5 GCSE grades 9-4, including English language and maths at grade 4 or above. Plus an informal interview with a member of the teaching team and a DBS check.
This course is free to those aged under 19 years old.
Most people aged 19
years and over can qualify for free or reduced price course fees and there are
grants and bursaries you can apply for to help cover the costs of coming to
college, depending on your circumstances.
If you already have a full level 3 qualification and are aged 19 years over, you can apply for an Advanced Learning Loan or pay the fee upfront in full and qualify for a 10% discount.
