Students from across the college have been getting hands-on experience at Gateshead Council’s first ever ‘PrimED for Christmas’ festive fashion show.
Photography, digital journalism, TV and film, fashion and hair and beauty students were all involved in the event which was held at Gateshead Civic Centre to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities earlier in the month.
Julie Todd, Team Leader at Gateshead Access to Employment Service said: “Thanks to all the students who supported our fashion show, they were terrific. They are a credit to the college and helped to make the day memorable for all involved.
“The students were very professional, friendly, and helpful to all the participants and staff and really got stuck into the event. To make themselves so valuable on the day is fantastic – young people to be proud of and I am sure they will have brilliant futures in their chosen fields.”
Photography, digital journalism and TV and film students captured the event, fashion students got the models ready for the catwalks and hair and beauty students styled their hair and did their make-up.
Vicky Cross, Head of Department at Gateshead College, said: “Our students loved working on the fashion show. It gave them the chance to put the skills and knowledge they’ve learnt in the classroom into action on a live project and we’d like to thank the council for giving them this opportunity”.
The fashion show was delivered in partnership by Gateshead Access to Employment Service, who support people with learning disabilities and who are neurodiverse into work, and Learning and Skills, who offer education and training to residents including specialist provision for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
The event was also supported by Primark’s store teams in Gateshead Metrocentre, Hartlepool and Newcastle, who donated the selection of outfits worn by models on the catwalk.
