We’ve been recognised for the work we’re doing to improve and look after the health and wellbeing of our staff.
Gateshead College has achieved the top standard of Maintaining Excellence in the Better Health at Work Awards.
The largest workplace wellbeing programme in England, the Better Health at Work Awards champions the efforts of North East employers to improve the health and wellbeing of their people.
David Alexander, Principal and CEO at Gateshead College, said: “This award recognises the fantastic initiatives we have in place to create a happy and healthy workplace where people feel supported. “Everyone has a part to play in creating a culture where wellbeing is a priority and I want to thank staff for getting involved in activities and for looking out for their colleagues.
“We’re committed to building on the work we’ve done so far and have lots of great ideas in the pipeline for 2024 which will continue to support colleagues in improving health and wellbeing. When we’re at our best can we provide the most positive experience for our learners.”
Health and wellbeing initiatives which were recognised by the Better Health at Work awarding team included Walk This May where staff were encouraged to put their best foot forward and get out into the fresh air for a walk with a colleague. Also highlighted was the work done in partnership with men’s suicide prevention charity, Andy’s Man Club and the range of support which the college has in place for staff such as counselling and an employee assistance programme (EAP).
Wellbeing was also one of three key themes of the staff development day with sessions including pilates, singing, dancing and mindful crafting.
More than 400 regional employers participate in the Better Health at Work Awards which are split into five levels. These are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Continuing Excellence and the top level, Maintaining Excellence.
