THE MALTINGS (BERWICK) TRUST

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Contribute to the project in the planning, delivery and evaluation of a wide range of public events and workshops being mindful of access needs, health and safety legislation and regulations and internal policies
  • Gather facts and collate information in response to a brief e.g. searching for the right location and venue for an event
  • Provide assistance onsite at an event by registering attendees or helping to assist the onsite team with a variety of tasks
  • Understand and manage how to prioritise tasks according to their importance and urgency for the stakeholders of an event and use initiative when faced with problems or challenges
  • Use a range of inhouse technology platforms and software systems and databases to make sure events run smoothly and contribute to reports and project plans
  • Build good relationships with project partners and event attendees to contribute to the smooth running of an event and work effectively within a group to prepare, deliver and follow up after an event takes place
  • Assist in the preparation and management of event budgets
  • Contribute to the evaluation of events for project partners and funders

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Weekly day release to Gateshead College.

The Maltings is leading an exciting cultural programme, The Living Barracks, funded by the UK Government and Arts Council (with project partners English Heritage, Northumberland County Council, Berwick Record Office and the Kings’ Own Scottish Borderers). The project will deliver a thriving cultural hub and visitor destination as a focal point for public life in Berwick-upon-Tweed. As part of this, starting in Autumn 2024 and running for two years, The Living Barracks will run a Cultural Development Programme to deliver a series of new contemporary artist-led commissions and residencies.
