Skills Bootcamps are training courses designed to help you to build sector specific skills and fast track to a guaranteed interview with a local employer at the end of the course.

Who are Skills Bootcamps for?

Career-serious, promotion-seekers, first-job-seekers and new-job-seekers. You’ll have a decent level of skills in the industry because these Bootcamps are Intermediate and Advanced (Levels 3 to 5).

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible you must:

  • Be aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2024 for bootcamps starting between 01 September 2024 and 31 March 2025
  • Live in the North East Combined Authority area (Gateshead, Sunderland, South Tyneside, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland or County Durham)
  • Have the right to work in the UK

Course length: 10 weeks

Times: Part time evenings, 6 hours a week

This Skills Bootcamp aims to provide comprehensive training that equips managers with the necessary skills to enhance their leadership capabilities and foster a positive, high-performing work environment.

Through a mix of theoretical knowledge, practical exercises, and real-world applications, managers will learn to harness EI to navigate the complexities of the modern workplace.

Course content includes:

  • Introduction to Emotional Intelligence – Including historical background and the five components of EI (Goleman’s Model)
  • Self Awareness – Understanding Emotions, Self-assessment Techniques, Building Self-awareness
  • Self-Regulation – Managing emotions, developing resilience, Impulse Control
  • Motivation – Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation, Goal Setting, Maintaining motivation
  • Empathy – Understanding other’s emotions, Building Empathetic relationships, cultural sensitivity.
  • Social Skills- Effective communication, leadership and Influence, team building
  • Application in the workplace

The Skills Bootcamp will be delivered using a hybrid model consisting of interactive practical workshops, online sessions and one to one coaching. Learners will be encouraged to gather data to support their self-reflection, use leadership tools to analyse their areas for development and set action plans to develop their skills.

This Skills Bootcamps is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and practice to initiate, plan, run and review a variety of events, whether you are looking for the next step in your career, a foot in the door or are a self employed freelancer looking to boost your skills and business in the North East.

Course content includes:

  • Introduction to Event Management - Overview of the Event Industry, Event Management Process
  • Event Planning Fundamentals - Event Objectives and Target Audience, Budgeting, Venue Selection
  • Marketing and Promotion – Marketing Strategies, Public Relations, Event Branding
  • Logistics and Operations – Logistics Planning, Supplier and Vendor Management, On-Site Management
  • Risk Management and Legal Considerations – Risk Assessment, Health and Safety, Legal Issues
  • Event Technology and Innovation - Event Management Software, Audio-visual equipment, Emerging Trends.
  • Networking and Client Relations – Client Management, Networking
  • Post-event activities – Evaluation and Feedback, Reporting and improvement following events.

Course assessment will consist of real-world event planning exercises and case studies analysis, and a final exam of learned skills. Support will be available and learners will develop their networking skills by having the opportunity to attend partner networking events to build a strong network to gain employment or become self- employed. Learners will also work with self-employment experts to support their plans to work freelance in the industry.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for people working in a hospitality setting, either employed or self-employed who wish to move into a more supervisory role, or those who have recently left education/returners to the labour market with previous experience of working in the sector.

Course content include:

  • Introduction to hospitality and industry trends, best practices in front of house services, customer interaction and satisfaction techniques and role-play for practical application.
